So glad you’re here! If you have found this page and are a trumpet player or know someone studying trumpet, you’ve stumbled on the single most random but well-informed blog on the subject on the internet. How do I know this? Well, my name is Dr. Lexie Signor, I have a doctorate in trumpet performance and I am also an autistic person who is sliding quickly into the land of AuDHD. Some might call this skills regression, I just think it’s a fun opportunity to document my thoughts on trumpet related topics as well as provide well-researched information on all things music, production, industry, and brass related.
I chose to call my blog “The Signal” because that was the purpose of trumpets since their invention. I won’t bore you with the details, but when you find yourself to be an expert on biblical demolition equipment, and related accessories, it seems logical that all of this info would be carried into the world via signal as was the original purpose of the trumpet. Fun fact: Trumpeting was included in the historical (Greek/OG) version of the Olympics. Trumpeters would wear a helmet similar to wrestlers of today to hold their cheeks firm as they attempted to send a signal as far as humanly possible. Sentinals were then stationed at half mile intervals toward the outskirts of the game grounds and the player whose sentinel came from the furthest distance would score the highest. …and people wonder why trumpeters tend to be over achievers. It’s programmed into us by history!
Now, while I could certainly drone on about the technical aspects and history of the instrument, my purpose in starting this blog is actually to provide relevant and helpful information which bounces around my brain regularly, in bite sized chunks which will therefore make them more easily understood and useful. That said, what I find useful and what you find useful will likely be two different things. So, if you already follow me on Instagram (@lexiethetrumpeter) great! Send me a DM or email me at lexie@lexiethetrumpeter.com if you’d like to ask a question or request a blog post about a specific subject. I love hearing from fellow victims of the torture coil, and their ilk so please feel free to contact me and inquire about all things trumpet related!
I’m looking forward to peppering the internet with my proverbial dribbles about all things brass and music industry related. Happy Honking, y’all!
